Welcome

Welcome to Pleasant View Baptist Church!

Our goal as a church of Jesus Christ and one body in Him is to bear fruit to the glory of God. He has given us His Word and His Spirit to enliven and empower us to fruitfulness as we abide in Him.

Our mission is to disciple the nations by preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ as our Lord commanded His church in Matthew 28:18-20. Every ministry we have has both this goal and mission in view.

Please take a moment to learn more about our ministries. Also be sure to visit our Pleasant View Christian School website. If you have any questions, just let us know!

In Christian Love,

Pastor Charles Hunt

What We Believe

Church Covenant

Having been led, as we believe by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour and, on the profession of our faith, having been

baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, and this assembly, most solemnly

joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge,

holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spiritually, to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale of, and the use of destructive drugs or intoxicating drinks as a beverage; to shun pornography; to abstain from gambling and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Saviour.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Saviour to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other Church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and principles of God's Word.

Our History

Pleasant View Baptist Church

“This is a record of Pleasant View Baptist Church organized September 17, 1961 by the First Baptist Church of Harrison, Ohio, organized by Bro. Ashcraft at Ludlow, Kentucky.” This quote from the first recorded business meeting begins the history of Pleasant View Baptist Church. The first business meeting was held on Wednesday evening, September 20, 1961. Bro. David Watson was voted in as the first pastor by 100% of the church. The church nominated and voted Elgie Doyle into the office of church clerk. Onie Kendall and Bro. Kaiser were voted into the office of trustees. Bro. Kenett was elected the first treasurer.

The first order of business after the officers were elected was to name Bro. Kendall and Bro. Kaiser to the building committee. A motion was then made for them to apply for a $1,500 loan from the Ludlow Bank and look into purchasing property. The second order of business was to change the name of the church on the sign to Pleasant View Baptist Church. (The original name was not noted in the records.) The church first held services in a barn in Constance, Kentucky.

David Watson resigned as pastor on July 7, 1963. John Fenner pastored from August 3, 1963, until 1969. He was followed by Eugene Dunn (December 14, 1969-August, 1973). At that time Phillip Frye took the pastorate until May 15, 1975. William Younger was called as pastor on July 20, 1975 and remained until November 14, 1993. During his ministry, the church secured the property at 240 Pike Street in Bromley, and moved to the new location on March 11, 1979. He also led the church to begin one of our greatest missionary endeavors, Pleasant View Christian School, in 1981.

Bro. Younger was succeeded as pastor by our current pastor, Charles Hunt. Pastor Hunt came to Pleasant View Baptist Church as youth director in November, 1974. On June 25, 1977, Bro. Hunt was ordained and called as assistant pastor. He has served the church in various capacities since that time, and worked full time at the school as principal and supervisor from its inception. Upon Bro. Younger’s resignation in 1993, the church asked Bro. Hunt to remain as interim pastor. On December 5, 1993, the church extended a call to become the pastor of Pleasant View Baptist Church. Bro. Hunt joyfully accepted that call and is now in his twenty-ninth year as pastor.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
